Easy Lemony Arabic Lentil Soup - Ramadan Kareem 🌙
Easy Lemony Arabic Lentil Soup
Ramadan Kareem 🌙
Ramadan Kareem, my friends 🤍
If you're fasting during Ramadan, then you know how challenging the day can feel — but sometimes what’s even harder is eating after a long day without food or water. Your body needs something gentle. Something nourishing. Something that feels like comfort.
I always break my fast with a date — a beautiful sunnah of Muhammad (peace be upon him). Dates help gently restore blood sugar without shocking your system. After that, I always begin with soup for easy digestion.
This easy lemony Arabic lentil soup has become my go-to Ramadan comfort bowl. It’s rich and smooth, warming from cumin and turmeric, yet bright and light from fresh lemon. It fills you without feeling heavy — exactly what your body craves at iftar.
Whether you’re making this for Ramadan or simply need a nourishing reset meal, this recipe is simple, affordable, and deeply satisfying.
Easy Lemony Arabic Lentil Soup
Ingredients
3 cups lentils, washed and drained
1 onion, diced
1 carrot, diced
3 tsp cumin
2 tsp turmeric
Juice and zest of 1 lemon
2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
1 tbsp butter
1½ tbsp chicken bouillon
6–7 cups water (just enough to slightly cover)
Instructions
1. Sauté the Aromatics
In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add diced onion and carrot. Cook for 3–5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
2. Add the Spices
Stir in cumin and turmeric. Toast for about 30 seconds to deepen the flavor.
3. Build the Base
Add the washed lentils, chicken bouillon, salt, and water (just enough to slightly cover everything).
4. Simmer
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, or until lentils are soft and fully cooked.
5. Blend Until Smooth
Using an immersion blender (or carefully transferring to a blender), blend until smooth and creamy.
6. Finish with Lemon
Stir in fresh lemon juice and zest at the end for brightness. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
Tips for the Perfect Ramadan Soup
If it’s too thick, add a little hot water after blending.
For extra richness, drizzle olive oil before serving.
Serve with warm pita and fresh herbs.
Make a double batch — it tastes even better the next day.
This soup reminds me that nourishment doesn’t have to be complicated. During Ramadan, we’re reminded to slow down, be intentional, and treat our bodies with care.
A warm bowl of lentil soup, a date, a quiet moment of gratitude — sometimes that’s everything.
Ramadan Kareem 🤍
With love,
Jules
