TIP for Troubleshooting: Making the Perfect Buttercream

I live in Canada so it's a bit dryer, and I find using 3.5 cups and 4 tbsp of milk, gives me the perfect buttercream consistency. You want your buttercream to be a bit stiffer to make it easier for piping.

Less Sweet
If you don't want your buttercream to be too sweet try using 3.5 cups of sugar and less milk for the same consistency.

Too Thin
If your buttercream is too thin, add 1 tbsp of powdered sugar at a time, whisk well until your buttercream is stiffer.

Too Stiff
If your buttercream is too stiff, add 1 tbsp of milk at a time, whisk well until your buttercream is smoother.

For Later Use
If you are storing your buttercream for later use - Keep the buttercream in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.

For Long Term Storage
The buttercream will keep well in the freezer for 1 month if stored properly. simply store it in an airtight container or ziplock bag. When ready to use let the buttercream come to room temperature, and using a hand mixer, whisk until fluffy again. Spread on your cupcakes or cakes for a delicious homemade treat!
