Beef Pho with Wontons
serves 2-3 total cooking time: 1:30hrs
ingredients
- 1 sirloin steak
- 1 small onion
- 6 cloves garlic
- 4 inch ginger
- 1 tbsp better than beef bouillon or 1 bouillon cube
- 1 tbsp rock sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
- 1/2 tbsp cooking oil
- cup of frozen wontons
- water to fill pot
- vermicelli noodles
direction
- cook noodles per package directions
- on medium/high heat roast/char the onion, garlic and ginger on a stove top, about 2-3 minutes, set aside
- preheat a medium soup pot on medium/high
- add cooking oil, sear steak on both sides for 1 minute each
- add charred onion, garlic and ginger
- add water to fill pot to about 1 inch, so it won't overflow when boiling
- add sugar, fish sauce, bouillon cube and cinnamon, bring to a boil then turn down to low/medium heat
- set timer for 38 minutes, at half way point add more water
- let continue to simmer for another 38 minutes
- remove steak, let sit for 5 minutes, slice thinly
- add salt and pepper to soup based on taste
- bring soup back to a boil, add wontons, cook for 3-4 minutes
- in a soup bowl, add noodles, top with steak and wontons
- using a strainer, add soup (be careful it's very hot)
